Sra. Mina Leierwood and Zebra Mask
My students made Zebra Masks for our bicycles in the May Day Parade!

¡ Hola !

Hello! And welcome to the Art Page!

This is my tenth year teaching art, and my sixth year in the Minneapolis Public Schools. Some of you may know me from Anwatin Middle School where I have been teaching for the last two years.

If you would like to contact me, the best way is emailing me at mina.leierwood@mpls.k12.mn.us.

I have a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in Studio Arts and American Indian Studies, and M.A. from the University of St. Catherine in Art Education. I am an artist in the community, active with Heart of the Beast Theater, Barebones Productions, the Art Shanty Project and other community art. I love bringing my students out into the community to show their art too!

We will be having a lot of fun and working with many medias over the course of the year; scissors, glue, paint, paper maché, clay, and many more - and yet at the beginning of the year, the students and I will be getting to know each other and the art room materials. Here are some of my expectations as we progress through the first quarter.

Can my students listen to the teacher and to each other respectfully?

Can we listen to instructions and hand out materials quickly?

Can we respect others while they are working, and respect their art projects?

Can we clean up the materials and stay organized?

Right now we are working with paper, pencils, and markers and Art Room routines. I am learning 525 names!!!!! It is a big job but I am happy and excited to meet my new students. Please be patient with me while I learn, too!
